On Fri 9 May, Manchester-based Espíritu Flamenco take over The Stoller Hall with a dazzling showcase of traditional flamenco music, song and dance featuring esteemed guitarist Jesús Guerrero, award-winning singer David Carpio and dancer and choreographer Andrés Peña, who appeared alongside the company in an unforgettable performance as part of the 2023 Manchester Guitar Festival.

Renowned for his instrumental virtuosity and creative flair, Guerrero has collaborated with an illustrious cohort of flamenco artists including Niña Pastori, Miguel Poveda and Argentina, as well as the Mexican artist Lila Downs and Soledad Pastorutti, one of the foremost exponents of Argentine folk music.

In 2016, he released his debut solo album to critical acclaim, and in 2024, alongside vocalist Miguel Poveda, he released Poema del cante jondo and won the Fatiguillo prize for accompanying guitar playing at the Seville Flamenco Biennial, establishing himself as one of the most talented and complete guitarists on the scene.

Hailed as a dancer ‘who never disappoints’ (deFlamenco.com), Andrés Peña has won countless noteworthy awards across a stellar international career, including the prize for young performers at the 2002 iteration of the Seville Biennial Festival, as well as presenting shows at the best flamenco festivals while running his own studios and teaching at academies in Spain and around the world.

His masterful command of improvisation, rhythm and connection with his fellow musicians continues to push the boundaries of flamenco while remaining true to the styles of his home city, Jerez de la Frontera.

David Carpio, a fellow Jerezano, sings all styles of flamenco with a surgical tautness that honours the craft without losing his definitive heritage. He has performed at the Festival de Jerez, La Asamblea de Cante de la Puebla de Cazalla, El Festival de La Union and many others. Alongside two wildly successful albums, Cardio has won the 2012 Award for Best Singing, and exhibits a peerless sense of professionalism and range which draws on his rich ancestry, from the viscerally harsh to the achingly tender.
