For an evening of live electronic sounds and an hybrid take on traditional African sonics, make sure you head to The White Hotel on Thu 3 Oct. Ugandan-based live experimental project Nihiloxica, comprised of Nilotika Cultural Ensemble, British drummer Spooky J and synth player Peter Jones, head up a not-to-be-missed performance alongside Planet Mu’s Northern powerhouse Rian Treanor. Rian’s “disruptive and essential voice in British underground club music” makes him an interesting addition to the already eclectic line-up presented by guru curators Project 13 MCR.

Meanwhile, Nihiloxica bring together the indigenous percussion group Nilotika Cultural Ensemble – a charitable organisation in Uganda that promotes drumming and tailoring as a means of ‘spiritual upliftment’ for the youth – and analogue synths for a hybrid take on traditional Buganda and Busogo sonics from the Kampala region of Uganda. According to their official website, Nihiloxica “harnesses the full force of the ancient Bugandan drumming tradition of Uganda and focusses it on the contemporary dancefloor through a dark, brooding lens of techno sensibility”, demonstrating a “continuous, evolving conversation between two cultures; a dialogue that is drawing attention from across the globe.”

Nihiloxica recently announced their return to the Nyege Nyege Tapes imprint with a new EP arriving February 2019, which follows the group’s breakout, self-titled EP which was released last year. Check out the video below for a taster of what to expect on the night. The video features a track from the new EP, Dubugwanjuba.
