Beer and biking don’t often go together – but when they do, it’s something quite special. In conjuction with Stockport and South Manchester CAMRA, we at Manchester Wire are excited to announce the first ever ale festival at the iconic National Cycling Centre. More commonly referred to as the Velodrome, plans were announced a while back for the 2014 Manchester Beer & Cider Festival to be held there next January. But, given the venue’s reputation for medal-winning excellence, they thought it best to practice, practice, practice with a summer version too. The menu (curated by the site’s food & beverage manager, Steve Tait) promises a strong local flavour backed by ales reaching from Hadrian’s Wall all the way down to the south coast, with an emphasis on light, summery drinks. Porters, stouts and ciders will be among the top secret list of 60+ drinks available too, with live entertainment on Saturday and Sunday afternoon – and even a Cycle Jumble Sale on Sunday Morning. There will be a wide selection of foods available (including a barbecue on the patio) – and, perhaps most crucially, this event will be absolutely free to attend.

To celebrate the launch of this (hopefully annual) event, the curator himself has offered Manchester Wire a gallon of the festival’s ale to give away – that’s 8 pints, or £24’s worth of hoppy greatness in today’s money. For your chance to win, email info at manchesterwire dot co dot uk by midnight on Friday 9 August with the subject line ‘Summer Beer Competition‘ and the following information:
