Throughout the spring holiday, the Science and Industry Museum hosts an action-packed programme of hands-on excitement which invites visitors to discover the wonders of our senses, from blockbuster exhibitions and video game thrills to animal-inspired agility courses and a wide array of spellbinding activities.
Following a sell-out February half-term, the museum’s latest major exhibition Operation Ouch! Brains, Bogies and You offers the chance to explore the incredible ways in which our brains process the world around us, as you venture through a colossal cranium with rooms dedicated to each of the five senses. Take a trip through an ear canal covered in gross, gooey wax, squeeze past sticky snot and test your own faculties of touch, sight, smell and hearing before being sneezed out of a giant nose.
Elsewhere, young animal lovers can discover how their furry friends use their remarkably diverse senses in a special agility course, while live science shows led by the museum’s expert Explainers delve deeper into the sensory abilities of curious creatures in different environments. Over in the bat cave, families can take a well-earned break as they learn more about nocturnal super-senses and make their own bat to take home.
Billed as ‘the ultimate gaming experience’, Power Up allows you to face off across generations and enjoy five decades of console and computer magic, from retro favourites like Pac-Man and Street Fighter to virtual reality systems. For avid gamers, annual passes are available to purchase, so you can come back whenever you want to play as much as you like for an entire year.
Chris Hill, Public Programmes Producer at the Science and Industry Museum said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating the senses this spring and taking inspiration from the amazing Operation Ouch! Brains, Bogies and You. We’re inviting everyone to see the science in the world around us by learning something new about your furry friends at home or creatures that live around the world.
“From tasting like a bee, being sneezed out of a giant nose or testing your reaction times in Power Up, it’s going to be sense-sational!”
