New date added due to popular demand: The Jesus & Mary Chain are a band that need very little introduction, one of the most influential acts ever to come from the British isles. After signing to independent label Creation Records, they released debut single ‘Upside Down’ in 1984, then released debut album, ‘Psychocandy’, in 1985 to critical acclaim on major label WEA.
Psychocandy is considered to be a landmark album for its combination of guitar feedback and traditional pop song structures, which proved influential on the forthcoming shoegaze genre and alternative rock in general. They’ve served as an inspiration to everyone from My Bloody Valentine to Dinosaur Jr.
Second album, ‘Darklands’, which the group will be playing in full during this show, is the group’s highest-peaking album in the charts to date. The record represented a dramatic shift in approach that stripped away the feedback to expose the skeletal guitar pop at the music’s core.
