Returning to Salford for a festive five-week run before embarking on a tour next spring, exhilarating pop musical FANTASTICALLY GREAT WOMEN WHO CHANGED THE WORLD brings a ‘kick ass-pirational’ stage show to The Lowry from Tue 5 Dec to Sun 7 Jan.
Based on the uplifting children’s book by Suffragette descendent Kate Pankhurst, FANTASTICALLY GREAT WOMEN follows dauntlessly intrepid heroine Jade, a whipsmart schoolgirl who sneaks away from her class to explore the unopened Gallery of Greatness in the local museum. After effortlessly gaining entry, Jade embarks on an illuminating journey of women’s history on which she meets an assortment of heroes, from Frida Kahlo and Rosa Parks to Marie Curie and Amelia Earhart.
Through these incredible encounters, Jade discovers the stories and world-altering achievements of history’s strongest mothers, sisters and daughters during their lives as explorers, artists, scientists and secret agents.
Co-produced by one of the team behind the smash-hit musical SIX, the ‘whip-smart and catchy’ (New York Post) comedy which explores gendered oppression and female survival through the stories of Henry VIII’s wives, FANTASTICALLY GREAT WOMEN offers boundless dramatic joy for adults, avid theatre-goers and 7+ children alike.
Promising an evening of unapologetic empowerment perfect for ‘anyone who is prepared to move and be moved’, this brand new production blends tales of heroine-ism with an irresistible popstar soundtrack for an unforgettable night of laughter and liberation.
