There are a few things that helped to define the 1960’s; the Beatles, England winning the world cup, Twiggy. But one designer who created the look of the decade was Mary Quant. Manchester’s Gallery of Costume has dedicated their newest exhibition to her legacy. ‘Mary Quant: Fashion Icon’ celebrates her designs for the young and hip clientele of the swinging sixties, capturing the essence of the time. Through the archive, which has over twenty outfits from the iconic Mary Quant label, you’ll see how her aesthetic put British fashion on the map and how it’s success impacted what we now know as the great British high street.
