It began in 2011 as a DIY punk celebration, but since then Fat Out Fest has grown into a bigger collaborative cultural event. This year’s festival, taking place over Halloween, is three days of experimental music and art performances. Sadly, the live events have been cancelled due to the Tier Three restrictions, but there’s still tonnes to watch free on Mixcloud. The full schedule was announced recently, and it features a plethora of live performances, DJ sets, online Q+As, and general Queer weirdness. There’s also a screening of Keyboard Fantasies, a film about the transgender African American singer Beverly Glenn-Copeland. Online afterparties are set to feature dancers, drag artists, and spoken word performers and as no Halloween weekend would be complete without fancy dress – even with in-real-life gatherings banned – there’s a competition for the best costume on social media which you can enter using #FatOutFancy.
