Manchester based music promoters Fat Out Til You Pass Out, who formed in 2008 as an experiment, have always striven to combat the often difficult independent music scene with a combination of good promotion and real care for musicians. They bring this DIY ethos with them to their own festival: Fat Out Fest 2012. Hosted at the equally unconventional Islington Mill over a weekend, expect a fairly unflinching line-up with a penchant for guitars. Punk and metal are guaranteed, though with a particular anti-elitism at the core of the festival, anything goes. Tuck into the sounds of Talons (pictured), Bitches, Klaus Kinski, Go Lebanon, Lydia Lunch and more. Craft stalls hosted by local artists will be selling illustrations, hand made jewellery and screen prints and much else. You kind of have to be there.

Sat 25 – Sun 26 Aug, Islington Mill, James Street, Salford, M3 5HW. Tel: 0161 278 6404, £25, www.fatout.co.uk
