Fat Out Festival returns this September, bringing three days of cutting-edge musical performance and art to venues across Salford and Manchester.

Kicking off this year’s programme, Hypersea is a brand-new interactive A/V performance from Working Men’s Club synth player and machine-learning experimentalist, Hannah Cobb.

Hannah will be developing the one-off performance throughout a 10-day Samarbeta residency ahead of the festival, with the limited capacity show set to take over Salford Museum & Art Gallery on Fri 20 Sep.

Later that night, the Fatty Acid afterparty brings a fabulous cabaret lineup to Islington Mill. Hosted by Violet Blonde with DJ Duckdown, there’ll be sets from Cabbage The Clown, Lesion, Lionel Bitchie, Palace Plastick and Sam Buttery.

Homoelectric regular Kim Lana will also be taking to the decks, whilst Mirage Bar next door will see a performance from Manchester rapper Che3kz and Japanese live techno artist s/h/u/y/a .

Running throughout the entire weekend, Islington Mill hosts a free exhibition by queer illustrator and maker, Eve Frances. The winner of an open call out, Eve’s tapestry artworks explore themes of Fat Justice and Fat Liberation through positive representation.

Sat 21 Sep sees a day-long musical takeover of Islington Mill. Spread across nine hours and four stages, the eclectic lineup features everything from Brazilian music producer and artist LYZZA and trailblazing East-London artist Nuha Ruby Ra to Kongolese live techno band Electroni Kongo.

Attention turns to the serene surroundings of Peel Hall on Sun 22 Sep. A folk-inspired bill, co-curated by broadcaster and DJ Zakia Sewell, is topped by Wyrd folk, with multi-instrumentalist Angeline Morrison, Celtic experimentalist Brìghde Chaimbeul, Calliope and Hiromi Oishi all joining.

Festival Founder Emma Thompson says: “I’m really excited to see Fat Out seep out into more spaces this year, taking our freaky sounds and queer energy further into Salford! There’s so much gorgeous music and visual art to be excited about, which as always has been collaboratively brought together by our amazing programme partners.”
