The team behind San Carlo have opened a winter wonderland-themed restaurant at 47 King Street, working with local chef and nose-to-tail meat lover, Robert Owen Brown. With décor designed to melt the spirit, the menu hasn’t gone down the Italian route of the new owners. Created by Owen Brown, food includes potted belted Galway ox cheek with warm caraway and rye and a wild porcini and Marsala soup with a pecorino pastry crust. Typical mains are rich claret braised Forest of Dean wild boar, Chorlton chorizo and horseradish dumplings, and baked Tunworth camembert style cheese with sweet pickled onion chutney. Chicken is served with a ‘caramelised orb of joy’ which sounds like Christmas to us plus there’s baked Alaska with homemade Christmas pudding ice cream and butterscotch sauce for dessert, as well as a spiced honey and Vimto poached pear. Go and feast.
