Manchester music venue Band on the Wall is to turn its eye to a film festival this February, picking out four musically-themed flicks. Whiplash, Walk The Line and a Wayne’s World double bill are all set to feature in its infamous auditorium.

Whiplash
The festival starts with a mighty clash of the cymbals as one of 2014’s standouts on the silver screen sees budding young sticksman Andrew (Miles Teller) perfecting his craft under the tutelage of JK Simmons’ perennially irate instructor, Fletcher. The huge IMDb rating of 8.5 is testament to its must-see status.
Sun 18 Feb, 7pm, £3-£4, www.bandonthewall.org

Walk The Line
Joaquin Phoenix plays Johnny Cash in a seminal biopic charting the country and blues musician’s highs and lows. Reese Witherspoon bagged an Oscar award for her portrayal of June Carter.
