Documentary film “Boom for Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquait” is showing at at arts and cultural non-profit, Levenshulme Old Library in April. It premiered at Toronto International Film Festival, but next month Sara Driver’s candid exploration of the pre-fame years of this unique artist will be presented by LevFlix, an independent community cinema run by local volunteers. The film offers a window into his life and the city of New York 1978-81 as it begun to shape his early vision, and how the crumbling city became his canvas. The seminal artist now seen as the ultimate representation of this period, fed by its politics, the rise of both hip-hop and punk rock, race issues and the New York art scene is given a fresh voice and perspective in this exciting flick. This is a one-off screening and all profits go directly to help find future LevFlix screenings, and refreshments will be available.
