Manchester band, OLA, will be giving documentary and music fans an opportunity to hear a live score of Koyaanisqatsi. The 1982 experimental documentary, directed by Godfrey Reggio, draws inspiration from the Native American Hopi word, meaning ‘life out of balance’. Footage of landscapes explores themes of modern civilisation and its relationship with nature and the role of technology in the 20th Century. In this film, the score replaces verbal narration and the live performance is an integral part of the screening.
