Manchester Science Festival 2017 is marking 30 years since the release of Robocop with a screening at Gorilla. The film has been chosen to set the scene of stark dystopia and black-and-white lawmaking as determined by the titular character’s uncompromising approach and will be followed by a Q&A session with innovators working in the fields of biomechanics and technological policing. Although dated, Robocop’s action scenes merit its 7.5 IMDb rating and its philosophical themes of fate, punishment, law and order through technological decision-making remain pivotal to both science and society.
