Did you know you can catch a movie at Waterside in Sale? This June the family-focused line up includes marmalade mad Paddington (2 – even better than the original in our opinion), Hugh Jackman’s musical about the circus, an unrecognisable Gary Oldman and peachy romance set in Northern Italy. Here’s what’s on when throughout June.

Kids: Paddington 2
One of those rare films to receive a 100% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes Paddington 2 was the surprise favourite of many a family last year and will be showing during the half term break. The story of the lovable bear working odd jobs to buy a gift for his beloved aunt it is hilarious and heartfelt as well as featuring a career best turn from Hugh Grant as the baddie.
Fri 1 Jun, 2pm, £5/2.50, www.watersidearts.org

Musical: The Greatest Showman
The story of the birth of show business told through the medium of the Hollywood musical starring Hugh Jackman was always going to be crowd pleaser and the catchy tunes and empowerment that runs throughout this tale of circus magnate P.T. Barnum. Though there is no indication that this will be a singalong event no doubt fans will be turning up with lyrics memorised and diaphragm expanded.
Fri 1 Jun, 6pm, £5/2.50, www.watersidearts.org

Historical drama: The Darkest Hour
Featuring an Oscar winning turn from a near unrecognisable Gary Oldman in heavy prostheses as the embodiment of bulldog spirit Winston Churchill. An intimate look underneath the bluster of the British Prime Minister and the bombastic speeches that lifted the country during war time this is one for history buffs and budding actors alike.

Art house: Call Me By Your Name
Winner of the best original screenplay at the Oscars and recipient of a slew of other nominations and critical acclaim this romance between a seventeen year-old student and the older man hired as his father’s research assistant set in 1980s Italy is beautiful in every application of the word to filmmaking.
