Bokeh Yeah! and Comma Film will screen a selection of poem-films at the Manchester Craft and Design Centre as part of this month’s FilmPoem challenge. The two-day event (on consecutive Saturdays) will show the best films from the recent inaugural FilmPoem Festival, and will include a guest programme from internationally renowned poem-film-maker Swoon. The first Saturday will also feature a selection of works from Comma Film’s adaptations of Gaia Holmes’ poetry, while the second Saturday will launch the poem-film challenge for film-makers. Participants in the challenge will take part in a series of activities that will equip them in the processes of shooting a poem-film. Through these activities, the contestants will be given the opportunity to read through the poetry submissions and select a poem to adapt into film format. They will work up ideas on the day and will take part in a variety of workshops ranging from storyboard techniques to editing. Participants will then have until next March to complete their films, which will then be screened at MadLab and the Manchester Craft and Design Centre.
