London favourite, Flat Iron, has confirmed it will be opening a new restaurant on Deansgate this July.

The two-floor restaurant, set to open its doors on Wed 3 Jul, is housed in a Grade II Listed building, designed by Charles Heathcote and first opened to the public in 1908 as the office of the Royal London Friendly Society.

The 150-cover space will bring the team’s ‘single-minded commitment to serving remarkable steak at an affordable price’ to the heart of Manchester.

The restaurant’s concise menu is led by its signature ‘Flat Iron’ steak, taken from the often overlooked featherblade, known for its flavour, tenderness and juiciness when seam butchered with skill and care. There will also be an array of sides including beef dripping chips, creamed spinach, truffled macaroni cheese and crispy bone marrow garlic mash.

A rotating board of specials will also be available, including a Wagyu steak of the day and a Scottish ribeye, exclusive to Manchester.  The kitchen features a bespoke charcoal grill, which will be used for all beef specials.

A curated selection of wines will make up the drinks list, including Flat Iron’s own Malbec, specially blended by the Flat Iron team using grapes grown in the Limoux area of the Languedoc in southern France. Alongside the wine list will sit a selection of draft beers and signature cocktails.

The interiors of the restaurant have been remodelled by architects Macaulay Sinclair with the vision to uncover and display as much of the original building fabric as possible, highlighting any heritage assets and celebrating the architectural features.

Speaking of the opening, Flat Iron’s Founder, Charlie Carroll says “Opening a restaurant in my home town of Manchester is a big deal to me and a long time coming. The food and drink scene is so exciting at the moment and just keeps getting better. I can’t wait to be a tiny part of it.

“I fell in love with a beautiful historic building on Deansgate in 2018 and 6 years on we are finally opening this summer. Flat Iron is about unpretentious, top-quality steak, available to all. I am passionate about delicious beef and proud to bring Flat Iron to the city where I grew up and where so many of my friends and family live.”

To celebrate the launch of its Manchester restaurant, Flat Iron will be giving away 500 Wagyu steaks from 5pm on Tue 2 Jul 2 nd July, the day before it officially opens. The giveaway will run on a first-come, first-served basis, giving lucky Mancunians a free Wagyu steak along with a preview of the new restaurant.
