A new all-vegan pizza restaurant is coming to Manchester’s Northern Quarter next month.  Called Purezza, it will take over the old Dough site on High Street serving up a sizeable selection of 48-hour fermented Neapolitan sourdough pizzas.

Founded in 2015 by Tim Barclay, Stefania Evangelisti and Filippo Rosato, Purezza claims to be the first vegan pizzeria to have launched in the UK. Globally renowned, it received awards at the World Pizza Championships in 2019 and took home National Pizza of the Year in 2018.

The brand is well established down south with sites in Brighton and Hove, Bristol, Brixton and Camden, beloved for their rice-based mozzarella – which is said to taste and melt just like the real thing. Made to a closely-guarded secret recipe, it’s the result of years of research and development in a special food laboratory. As vegans will know, it’s a hard thing to get right.

This latest opening will be Purezza’s sixth site in the UK and first in the North West. Speaking on the decision to launch in Manchester, co-founder Tim Barclay said: “Manchester has been on our agenda for years now as we know it has a vibrant foodie scene, which will only grow once lockdown restrictions are lifted.

“We’ve had more requests on social media to open in Manchester than any other city in the UK, and it’s truly a pleasure to honour those requests and to finally make it happen. We’re really excited about this, and we can’t wait to welcome you through our doors.”

The Purezza menu for Manchester features ten unique vegan pizzas with toppings such as vegan black truffles, smoked beetroot carpaccio, BBQ pulled porketta and vegan nduja. It also boasts the 2018 National Pizza of the Year, aka the Parmigiana Party, which features a red tomato base with smoked mozzarella, aubergine parmigiana, crumbled sausages and a dusting of nutritional yeast. Due to open in May 2021, keep your eyes peeled on their social media for more information on booking closer to the time.
