Society, a £1m new street food market dreamed up between developer PopCity and Hebden Bridge’s Vocation Brewery, will open up at Barbirolli Square in the empty Pitcher & Piano unit next to Bridgewater Hall. Some independent food vendors have already agreed to operate at the market – including The Falafel Guys, Slap and Pickle Burgers and Manzoku Ramen – and Vocation will of course have a bar dedicated to their popular craft beers. Society hopes to provide independent businesses with an affordable space to trade and attract new customers, and give customers the opportunity to enjoy a diverse selection of food and drink from local vendors. The success of PopCity’s first street food venture (Assembly Underground in Leeds) makes these plans for a new food and drink space in Manchester all the more exciting – the projected designs for the unit include a mezzanine, cocktail bars, and an outdoor patio, as well as an indoor lounge area, giving a taste of what promises to be a vibrant addition to the city centre. As of writing, exact opening times are TBC – but keep checking back for updates.
