In the middle of festival season it can be hard to keep up with what’s going on and what’s going down around Manchester but we’ve got a handy round-up of food and drink news to keep you updated. There’s news of a new games bar on Lever Street, the unveiling of Six By Nico’s debut menu, a Middlesborough favourite coming to Hatch, and a Corn Exchange darling heading to the Northern Quarter.

Half Price Schloss Breakfast
Albert’s Schloss is well known for its cocktails and hearty Alpine inspired food but maybe less so for its weekday breakfast, maybe because those on the cocktails the night before won’t be awake in time. If you’ve been hankering after a hearty feed to get you going through the day, Schloss are offering half price food throughout the week for the whole of July and August. Between 8am and 11.30am morning diners can get 50% ‘Schloff’ the eggs Benedict, steak and eggs, or the spectacular cruffins baked in house. Offer must be booked in advance and does not include drinks.

7 Sins opens on Lever Street
The spot on Lever Street just behind Flok seems to have been a tricky venue to maintain recently. Following the closure of Bakerie, Fike made a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance before the latest bar looking to make a success of the place, 7 Sins, arrived. Taking a very different style from the previous inhabitants, 7 Sins is a graffiti and neon be-decked gaming bar. Hard Shakes and arcade machines are the order of the day, with stairs leading down to a basement cocktail bar.

Six By Nico Launches Opening Menu
Less than a month ago came news that Six By Nico would be venturing down from Scotland to set up a restaurant in Manchester and now we have news of their debut menu. This will become a common occurrence for the new venture at the old Roc ‘n’ Rye site, as the menu changes every six weeks. The very first of the changing menus is entitled ‘The Chippie’ and features culinary twists on the classic British food staple. The fish supper course will see beer pickled mussels and confit fennel whilst Nico makes a nod to his Glaswegian upbringing with a deep fried Mars bar for desert. The restaurant opens next week.
Opens July 14, Six By Nico, 60 Spring Gardens, Manchester M2 2BQ,

Pop-up Food Market This Weekend
From this Thursday Pravha lager will be hosting a special pilsner inspired food market in Spinningfields. Aimed at true foodies, there will be a range of food either using the actual pilsner for taste, or intended to complement the drink. Options will include a pilsner sorbet or – for the slightly more adventurous – head to the Edible Bubble Volcano which will be releasing a constant stream of beer bubbles for guests to try and catch. Of course, there will also be a free 330ml taster of Pravha for all attendees to try. Entrance is free but registering is recommended.

Rave Review For Mana
Manchester’s much awaited Michelin star may well be just around the corner if Marina O’Loughlin in The Times is to be believed. The mysterious food critic raved about the food in the Ancoats fine dining saying that it was ‘a good restaurant by world standards’. Chef Simon Martin had previously worked at much lauded restaurant NOMA, and will be hoping to see the high praise turn into stars soon.

Salvi’s comes to NQ
One of the most loved Italian restaurants in the city is set to open another site, venturing into the Northern Quarter for the first time. Perched in between Federal and Shack on the edge of the Northern Quarter in the site vacated by an estate agents, the latest venture from Maurizio Cecco will serve Neapolitan pizza and meat and fish dishes familiar to anyone who has tried their other locations. The restaurant is scheduled to open in August.
Opens Aug, Salvi’s, High St, Manchester M4 1FS, www.salvismanchester.co.uk

Parmogeddon Comes To Hatch
If you’ve not experienced the Parmo then you haven’t spent enough time in the North-East but a new venture at Hatch is aiming to put you out of your ignorance. Parmogeddon will bring the Middlesbrough delicacy to the box park from Thursday and whilst there are plenty of variants on the menu, the original is chicken or pork, under a Béchamel sauce topped with cheese. It’s definitely not the healthiest food going but that’s definitely not the point. And, don’t worry, they do a vegan one for plant-based parmo fans.
