It seems like Summer may well never happen, but fear not because Manchester’s food and drink stars are here to bring some sunshine into your wet June days. Bundobust are first up with their special heavy metal twist on an old favourite, Lupo will show you how to make Vermouth, whilst a local(ish) restaurant has been named the ultimate best in the UK right now. If you’ve got favourites around the city you can make sure to nominate them in the MFDF 2019 awards, though there is sad news as Beastro shuts its doors.

Bundobust Go Metal
If you’re a vegan metal head with a taste for craft beer, you’re in for a treat at Bundobust tonight (18 June). To celebrate the Enter Sandman rockers’ show at the Ethiad, Bundobust have thrown together a special dish that can be washed down with a special Metallica and Stone Brewing collaboration beer. The much loved vada pav, a deep fried mashed potato ball, has been given a redesign and gone black, obviously. With numbers limited to 25, and with it available from midday, we imagine metal vegan fans should get down sharpish. If you miss out on the vapa pav, the Enter Night pilsner will be available throughout the night.
Tues 18 Jun, Bundobust, 61 Piccadilly, Manchester M1 2AG, from 12pm, www.bundobust.com

Vermouth Making at Lupo
Media City’s finest Italian cafe, Lupo Caffe, is to host another vermouth making workshop with drinks experts Into The Gathering Dusk. Held tonight, Tuesday 18 June, the event will feature a chat about the history and traditions of vermouth making as well as the techniques and expertise that go into it. Guests will then be given the ingredients to make a bottle themselves to take home as well as getting to drink and eat Lupo’s wines and food on offer throughout the night.
Tues 18 Jun, Lupo Caffè Italiano, 2.05 Boatshed, Exchange Quay, M5 3EQ, www.Eventbrite.co.uk

Aperol Spritz
The last few summers it has been near impossible to miss the sight of a bright orange liquid in often branded wine glasses and it seems 2019’s warm months will be no different. Hoping to get you started on another few weeks of spritzing, the Aperol folks are opening a terrace at The Oast House. The ‘Aperol Spritz Giardino’ will be an apparently exclusive terrace and will be open Friday – Sunday. Tickets can be booked for £8 to guarantee a spot in the, hopeful, sunshine.
From Sun 16 June, The Oast House, Crown Square, The Avenue Courtyard, Manchester M3 3AY, www.Eventbrite.co.uk

Moor Hall Named Best UK Restaurant
Anyone who has dined at Mark Birchall’s Lancashire restaurant with rooms will be unsurprised to hear it has just been voted the best place to eat in the UK. The twelfth edition of the Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards saw another gong bestowed on the restaurant after picking up their second Michelin star last October. With the awards seeing a near 50/50 split for restaurants inside and outside of London, Manchester and surrounding areas had a good showing with Ancoats’ Mana making a very respectable entry at 73 – though there was a disappearance from the list of the highly rated Where The Light Gets In.

Grill on New York’s New Sunday Menu
Grill On New York Street have launched a new Sunday Roast menu with a range of options and the chance to share with up to four people. The New York Street restaurant will be serving the three classics of roast chicken, roast lamb, and roast beef, but there’s also an option to upgrade to a tomahawk steak – a 800g piece of meat to be shared between two. Alongside this are classic desserts such as sticky toffee pudding. The roasts are served from 12pm every Sunday and when they are gone, they are gone.

Beastro To Close
Spinningfields has lost one of its few independent restaurants, as Beastro announced its closure with immediate effect. The much loved Left Bank venue had been open for two years since taking over three of the units previously used by the start up street food venue The Kitchens. Blaming an ‘incredibly difficult trading period’ the Beastro heads said they’d tried various different ideas to keep going but that it wasn’t possible to continue.
