As Summer hots up, so does the food and drink scene around Manchester. There are plenty of new launches that have either appeared or will appear shortly including a much raved about new Thai restaurant, a third venture from the Get Chucked group, a second site for Altrincham’s WowYauChow and an exciting new social enterprise from Tony Wilson’s son. If you’re still not sated, we can offer you Stockport’s first Viking Tapas Bar and the sad departure of Printwork’s finest stag do haunt.

Now open: Thai Kitchen No 6
There’s a new Thai restaurant in town, as Thai Kitchen No 6 has opened up on Chapel Walks. Having grown from a delivery service for students in the city, they’ve finally got a permanent place for customers to sit down in. Already being heavily praised by some of its neighbours, including Kickstarter backed newbie Kala, their bestselling dish according to their twitter is stir fried squid with salted eggs which can be washed down with a selection of Thai beers. Set to become a popular jaunt amongst non-students as well, it’s a welcome addition to what was starting to become a quiet part of town.
Open now, Thai Kitchen No 6, Chapel Walks, Manchester M2 1HN, 0161 832 8994, follow them @thaikitchenno6

El Camino To Launch New Residency Restaurant
One of the many hotels popping up in Manchester is set to welcome an exciting new restaurant venture. Whitworth Locke Aparthotel opened at the end of last year, and has welcomed a new restaurant called The Cotton Factory. Rather than being a standard hotel restaurant, this is a residency restaurant that hosts pop-up bars and vendors for a short period of time. El Camino, who have previously had a residency in Get Chucked in Urmston, will be bringing their MExican inspired street food to the restaurant this summer. This is the second city centre venture from the group behind this, including the Get Chucked street food at Hatch. This is a bit more sit down, and reservations for the 78-cover restaurant open from June 1st.
Open June, El Camino at The Cotton Factory, Whitworth Locke, 74 Princess St, Manchester, M1 6JD, follow @ElCaminoMXCN

Albert’s Schloss – Summer of Kultur
There don’t seem to be many things that the folk at Albert’s Schloss can’t do well so we’re excited about their new theme for the warmer months, ‘Summer of Kultur’, celebrating a century of Bauhaus. The art movement that encapuslated the essence of bohemia is a fitting choice for the Bavarian Bier palace and will be celebrated in art, music, cocktails, and culture throughout the Summer. There’s also a new beer to go alongside the theme, Manchester Rein, a crisp pilsner style beer made to Bavarian purity laws as well as a whole raft of new cocktails on the menu inspired by the art movement.

Oli Wilson Bakery in Ancoats
A former Ancoats warehouse is set to launch as a new bakery sometime this Summer, but this one also comes with a social enterprise attached. Oli Wilson, son of Tony, is launching Peacemeal – a bakery that aims to employ people who have experienced homelessness to help them get a stable job, and to break the often repetitive cycle of homelessness. The former Armstrong’s Furniture warehouse on Adair Street will open in July with a bakery and coffee shop by day turning into a late night venue later on. With a menu curated by Luke Cowdrey of Unabombers (Refuge and Volta), and a wellness centred ground floor, as well as an urban garden on the roof, Peacemeal aims to breathe life into an unused building. Tiger Tiger To Transform
Many a stag and hen do will be scrabbling around for new plans with news that Tiger Tiger has followed Birdcage and announced its closure. There’s still some time to enjoy the delights of Printworks’ finest, as its estimated it won’t close for a few months yet to give way to, Garden of Eden, a new project of ‘sensory delight’ from the site’s new owners. With the aim to make the bars somewhere to go day and night, and with a large outdoor terrace planned, it should still be the central place for many a visiting group looking for somewhere, anywhere. Singers will be pleased to know the karaoke rooms will be staying, renamed ‘Voice of Eden’ when the new bar opens.
Opening November, Garden Of Eden, The Printworks, 27 Withy Grove, Manchester M4 2BS, For more info: www.tigertiger-manchester.co.uk

Viking Themed Tapas bar in Stockport
If you are one of the Stopfordians pining for recently departed The Allotment, it may be some comfort to know its old home has already found a new tenant. How you react to this being a Viking themed bar where you can drink mead from a horn, is down to the individual. Bringing the Viking stylings into the 21st century has obviously meant providing small plate options alongside the mead. With axes, handmade furniture, and faux fur dotted about, Vinabod Tapas Bar, is aiming to be the most authentic Stockport Viking Tapas bar you can invade.
Opening June, 6 Vernon St, Stockport, SK1 1TY, www.facebook.com
