A staple of the Manchester dining scene El Rincon de Rafa has ventured to a second site in Didsbury for great tapas and more wine from the Basque eaterie. Named for the man who started it all at the hidden gem just off Deansgate, Rafa’s looks to have the same passion for authentic Spanish and Basque cooking in intimate surrounds.

Flight Club darts bar opens on Deansgate
For those who are burgeoning Phil Taylors but are less inclined to head to a classic boozer, Flight Club is opening this week to offer a variety of options to try out darts. Aimed at those who are less inclined to head to a traditional darts board in a pub, the new bar offers food and drink alongside a variety of games for all skill levels.

New restaurant:  Bistrotheque group t0 open London Warehouse at former Place Hotel in 2019
You may have noticed Capital & Centric banners attached to up and coming ventures around the city including Kampus at the old MMU building on Aytoun Street. Their latest announcement is that the former Place Hotel near Piccadilly Station will become London Warehouse. The 120,000 square foot building will include a restaurant and hang out space alongside a 166 bed hotel, run by East London trendies Bistrotheque. London Warehouse is set to open in 2019.

Lily’s vegetarian restaurant in Oldham to move to bigger Ashton outlet
Much loved vegetarian Indian restaurant, Lily’s is moving to a bigger premises. Fear not, for those around Ashton, or on a trip to Ikea won’t have to head far as Lily’s is just heading to slightly bigger premises down the road. The Manchester Food and Drink Award winners will still be serving the same highly acclaimed food, just to more people, and still in Ashton. Date TBC.

New NQ bar and restaurant, Bab (kebab house) & Honey Trap (dive bar) from Pen & Pencil 
Still keeping much of the information under wraps, the folks behind Pen & Pencil are teasing details about their new Stevenson Square place. What we do know so far is that the German influenced bar and restaurant duo will house a kebab house, Bab, alongside a Berlin-style dive bar, Honey Trap, which will stay open until 3am at the weekends.

Hatch Urban Narnia comes to Oxford Road
Manchester’s own boxpark, Hatch, situated to the side of the Mancunian way is set to expand over the coming weeks. For those who love a bit of Christmas cheer but fancy something a bit alternative, Hatch’s ‘Urban Narnia’ could be just the answer. Opening on Thursday 15 November and running until 20th, the expanded site will host the usual array of high quality street food as well as retailers hoping to entice you with Christmas gifts, The exact details are under wraps until the opening, but Oxford Road may have found its Christmas wonderland.

Food meets theatre in Post – as part of Orbit Festival at Home 
If you’re quick, head to HOME for an immersive performance called Post (Tuesday 23 October), a new play focusing on what it means to be a European immigrant in a time where the rise of nationalism and the far right make people question identities and borders. There’s an opportunity to sample Portuguese food and wine, which is handed out to the audience as part of the show. Read more about Orbit Festival here.
