One of Manchester’s most acclaimed Sushi restaurants, Umezushi, has undergone a transformation to become a brand new venture: Chish and Fips – a Japanese/Taiwanese-inspired fish and chip shop. Keen eyed food fans will no doubt remember that Umezushi recently shut its doors after seven years on Mirabel Street, gathering glowing reviews from diners and impressing critics during its time there. When the restaurant unexpectedly closed, owners Terry Huang and Hanna Michnowicz promised there were more exciting things to come, and Chish and Fips delivers on that promise with a unique take on the national favourite in the same Mirabel Street location, featuring battered seafood, Japanese spices and sauces, mushy edamame beans and more – all assembled in £10 fish boxes. With a selection of craft beers on offer (including a custom-brewed sour Gari Cose from local brewery, Runaway) Chish and Fips is a welcome addition to Manchester’s glittering culinary scene, and is now open Wed – Sun, noon – 9pm.
