New head chef Matthew Taylor, has given the Gallery Cafe’s menu a shake-up in time for summer. Seasonal, local and fresh is key to the updated menu, which is cooked and baked in the Gallery kitchen each day. Breakfast additions include sweet and savoury buns, bacon muffins, sticky Danish pastries while lunch now takes in chicken schnitzel with heritage potatoes, celery, apple and goat’s cheese salad with broad beans and hazelnuts and Moroccan-style couscous. Cakes and pastries are baked in house each day and new options include Hummingbird cake and the Manchester inspired apricot and marmalade Bakewell tart. The Cafe also serves it’s own blend of coffee, created by the local Second City Coffee roasters. Head chef Taylor joins the Gallery Cafe from Hotel Gotham, whose restaurant he launched in 2015, and secured two AA rosettes during his time there. His cooking style is fresh and inspired by the seasons and the best in local produce. Watch this space for a review.
