Make no mistake: winter is fast approaching and with it comes a little more than rain, wind and a few dreary evenings. Head to Spinningfields’ picturesque Asian eatery Tattu and you’ll find that the change of season has also brought with it a brand new Winter Menu, complete with enough hearty, warming and belly-pleasing dishes to keep visitors smiling until the sunshine returns. Aside from the fact this fan-favourite restaurant makes the perfect date-night spot with its sleek, dark interior and pink-purple blossom tree centrepiece, Tattu Manchester’s latest menu additions make a visit worthwhile regardless of the occasion thanks to their attention to detail and joyful mix of punchy flavours.
To start it’s a selection of small plates, including a healthy portion of Chilli Salt Baby Squid (£9) and green chilli-laced Soft Shell Crab (£16) – however its the irresistible Mixed Dim Sum Basket, featuring bite-sized Wagyu, Thai Chicken and Rock Shrimp parcels (£12), and delicate, fall-apart Sticky Beef Short Ribs (£10) that steal the show during this opening round. A hearty order of Pan Fried Szechuan Sea Bass (£20) perfectly rides that delicate balance of light fish-dish and nippy-spice kick next to a moreish side of Wok Fried Angry Bird chicken (£16) – both of which arrive immaculately presented thanks to the venue’s perfectionist restaurant and waiting staff team.
Tattu’s keen eye for an Insta-moment isn’t limited to their floral tree photo-op, either. Cut to dessert and the menu’s Chocolate Brownie Pagoda (£11) – featuring three of its titular chocolate treats, topped off with a cream-filled chocolate pyramid and swimming in a sharp winterberry compote – arrives amid a swirling mist of dry ice that’s screaming out to be photographed. They’ve even got those with a gluten-free sweet tooth covered too: their vegan Asian Pear Sticky Toffee Pudding (£8) with cinnamon, vanilla and almond offers a dream meal-closer for all those who love a delightfully claggy dessert option. While it may not be one for those watching the pursestrings, this new selection of dishes makes Tattu Manchester the perfect spot for a pre-Christmas get-together.
