If you want to break free from your humdrum routine – and raise money for charity – then head down to the Hard Rock Café for ‘Freddie For A Day’. There’ll be no stopping staff at the rock ’n’ roll restaurant as they dust down their catsuits and sport fake moustaches to become Freddie Mercury on Tuesday 5 September. Don’t fear – they’re not going slightly mad: the special day held on the Queen singer’s birthday is to raise funds for the Mercury Phoenix Trust. The Trust was set up by remaining members of Queen to fight HIV / AIDS. The Freddie themed fun starts at noon, and if you count anyone called Gordon as your best friend, there’s a kind of magical bonus – in recognition the band’s Flash Gordon theme song, people named Gordon (with ID) will get 2-for-1 on the Hard Rock’s Original Legendary Burger.

Tue 5 Sep, Hard Rock Café, The Printworks, Exchange Square, Manchester M4 2BS. Tel: 0161 831 6700, 12pm – 11.45pm, www.hardrock.com
