Sheffield’s Forced Entertainment theatre company have been pushing the boundaries between audience and performer for 25 years. The Coming Storm is their latest production, devised and written as usual by the collective. Undoing conventional narrative forms, the production explores multiple intersecting tales stories resulting in a compelling if unstable performance; a blackly humorous epic almost too big for the stage. Under the artistic direction of Tim Etchells, viewers audience are given the actors’ stories in disassembled and fragmented form and, in an Forced Entertainment first, this show also features live music with a live pianist. Fresh from Dublin Theatre Festival and London’s LIFT, this darkly comic show is one of the highlights of the theatre’s autumn season.
