The DM17 Design City Weekender takes over Upper Campfield Market this weekend with a family-friendly mix of affordable artworks and activities. Try your hand at animation, embroidery or papercraft with a flurry of workshops, and keep an eye out for the live artworks popping up throughout the huge market hall. Try frog making with Ben Clark, three-minute portraits from Northern Quarter craft shop Fred Aldous, or visit the University of Salford’s boutique fashion studio. There’s even a doodle wall. Manchester Print Fair will be there too, celebrating its sixth birthday with dozens of illustrators and independent magazine-makers. There’s lots to check out, so keep your right-brain awake with the Foundation Coffee House and organic vegan food from Rosie and Organic. Then, once the workshops wind down at 6.30pm, enjoy the DM17 bar until 9.30pm on Friday and Saturday with tunes from Manchester DJs Dance Lady Dance, Pasta Paul and Stu Richards. General entry is free, as are most of the workshops: check the website for availability.
