Experience all the thrill of the circus at Dunham Massey – with a distinctly theatrical touch. The Lost Carnival is a free family-friendly trail of tricks and acrobatics which traces the drama of battling carnival families The Birds and The Ingenues. After appearances in Bury and Crewe, the large-scale outdoor adventure comes to the Georgian splendour of Dunham Massey thanks to community festival programmers Wild Rumpus and So It Is. This year the event is called Behind the Scenes of the Lost Carnival and there’s a twist in the tale: the fictional families must come together and unite star-crossed adversaries Sergei Bird and Popou Ingenue. Watch them rehearse fantastical acts, and plunge into a self-led journey through mesmerising circus installations. Don’t be afraid to come dressed up, complete with top hat and plumes. The free carnival runs throughout August, but get an early taster on 28 and 29 Jul when Welcome to the Carnival introduces you to the stars of the show with a ticketed evening of performance. And catch up on the story so far with The Lost Carnival podcast.
