Murmur Reading Series returns to Common for its 9th instalment this Thursday. Focusing on contemporary poetry and performance, Murmur events have previously welcomed leading writers/artists from the UK and beyond, including Ed Atkins, Sophie Jung, Rachael Allen, Sam Riviere, Jen Calleja and Richard Scott. Thursday’s edition is themed around translation. The first contributor is Sophie Collins, author of Who is Mary Sue? (Faber, 2018). Collins recently translated Lieke Marsman’s The Following Scan Will Last Five Minutes and in 2017 edited Currently & Emotion, an anthology of contemporary translation. Joining her will be Iris Colomb, an artist, poet, and translator whose practice involves interactive performance and experimental translation; her publications include I’m Shocked (Bad Betty Press, 2018). Finally, Mónica de la Torre will present three short video pieces. Originally from Mexico City and based in New York — where she was poetry editor for BOMB Magazine — de la Torre is a prolific poet and translator whose most recent collection is The Happy End/All Welcome (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2017). Not to be missed.
