Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Garzón-Montano has been tipped for musical greatness by Band on the Wall, who’ve booked him to play a show in their ‘recommends’ series. A stint supporting Lenny Kravitz on his European tour piqued Gilles Peterson’s interest enough to secure an invite to record a BBC 6 Music session in the radio presenter’s basement studio, adding this to his debut EP – Bishouné: Alma del Huila – that he wrote and recorded by the age of 19. Garzón-Montano’s mother worked within the Philip Glass Ensemble, affording him a musical upbringing that’s channelled eclectic learnings from cumbia and salsa to classical and avant-garde into his violin, guitar, drums, bass guitar and piano playing.
