Manchester’s own punk-art-riot-girls, Hotpants Romance have a tradition of playing a show every year on Valentine’s Day, whether or not they have rehearsed on any day that year or the one before. They are celebrating 10 years as a trio, having formed two hours before a gig on Valentine’s Day 2005. Yet the results of their experiments in sound are often wonderful. Love letters may be thrown around, unusual sounds are made and you can expect outfits that riff on the theme of romance. There’s something special about their ongoing commitment to an artistic and musical project that’s seen them tour the US with the Ting Tings and support the Vivian Girls and The Lovely Eggs. Expect something special this Valentines – and in the Northern Quarter’s quirkiest gift store too.
