Two showcases have been commissioned by North West-based, African-led arts organisation, Amani Creatives  with a line up that includes world-class poets, choreographers and musicians. Each event showcases two artists who will perform live over YouTube on Tuesday 20 April and Tuesday 27 April – and tickets are completely free (see below for booking info).

The first line up (Tuesday 20 April) includes Sierra Leonean musician, Papa Sam Alafia who will reinterpret traditional Sierra Leonian storytelling and perform new songs inspired by the Goumbay musical genre. Alafia is joined by Ghanaian dancer and visual artist, Christian Asare, who has created a brand new afro-contemporary dance piece for this online showcase.

On Tuesday 27 April, theatre and music lovers can enjoy new work by Congolese pianist and composer, Tshepe Tshepela, and Somalian international actress and theatre practitioner, Yusra Warsama. Tshepela studied jazz performance and composition at Birmingham conservatoire and his performance explores the change which took place in Congolese music of the 1950s. Warsama (pictured), meanwhile, interweaves performance and poetry from a British-Somali perspective.

Each showcase starts at 6.30pm and is followed by an in-conversation discussion with Manchester-based writer and educator, Mickela Sonola. To attend, simply register your interest via Eventbrite or watch live via YouTube.
