Eight years ago, the beacon of Manchester’s cultural life that is Deaf Institute was opening its doors for the first time. The venue’s reputation has grown exponentially during that time, and the roster of DJs lined up to spin a musical web is one of many testaments to that. The live music session on the night might have sold out in double quick time, but we’re all invited to the rest of the party from teatime into the early hours. Wardens of all that is funky, You Dig?, join the jazzy house vinylphiles at So Flute in the Main Hall, while they’re queuing up to unleash party vibes in the Main Bar and Basement rooms. Groovement’s hip hop connoisseur, Agent J, weekly 80s pop club heroines Girls On Film and Piccadilly Records’ musical encyclopedias are all among the pop pickers elsewhere in the building on a night worthy of seeing in Deaf’s ninth year.
