With the streets of Fallowfield surely teeming with freshers this week, you’d be forgiven for wanting to avoid the student central at all costs. But with freshers also comes stand-out – and cheap – events, and particularly worth making the trip for this year is Fallow Café’s string of free shows. Having recently taken over from Trof in the summer, Fallow seems keen to continue brandishing the best of the alternative music scene as it hosts some of Manchester’s finest emerging bands over this five-day affair, including 60s-inspired harmonious poppers The Gramotones and lo-fi trio Shinies (pictured). Also appearing will be The Systematics, Turrentine Jones, Enemies Eyes, Dumb, Turrentine Jones, Black Ribbons, Kindest of Thieves and The Slovaks as the Fallowfield venue looks set to take over where Trof left off in serious style.
