Taking a break from its normal bar of residence, Odd, in the Northern Quarter, live spoken word and music night Ode is moving to Oddest (Ode-est?) in Chorlton for one night only. This special edition of the free event is brought to you by the minds behind of Speakeasy and Contact’s Young Identity. Performers include poet and Mancunian maverick Mark Mace Smith (pictured), a former BBC MediaCity poet laureate soon to be inaugurated into the British Library Sound Archive as well as Nicole May who returns for her slot after a stint collecting street bards for her AndWhat TV channel. Live music comes in the form of HMD who’ll be sharing sounds from new EP W16NTER alongside house band Ode;eep who’ll be laying the grooves for the poets to lay their words upon. Aspiring spoken wordsmiths are welcome to head down and take part in the open mic competition with where one performer will be crowned Ode:mon and asked to come back for an extended slot via to Ode’s clap-o-meter. Go get your creative juices flowing.
