Grrrlizm Zine Launch at Common
Our first pick of free things to do in Manchester this week is this zine launch at Edge Street’s Common. Grrrlizm is a new feminist zine featuring the work of local female artists, many of whom will be displaying and selling their original work on stalls at this event. Soundtracking the launch party will be radio presenter and DJ Lady C. The zine will be available to purchase on the night, with profits going to the Pankhurst Trust and Women’s Aid, and the first handful of buyers will even get their hands on a free G&T courtesy of sponsors Three Rivers Gin. The organisers are also requesting donations of sanitary products for homeless women’s charity Every Month.

Comics and Health in Conversation at MMU Special Collections (pictured)
The Special Collections at Manchester Metropolitan University invites two comics artists to discuss their work documenting patient experiences through their medium. Boston-based writer Cathy Leamy has worked for big names like Marvel Comics, but she also produces less well-known health education comics for Massachusetts General Hospitals. Tony Pickering is a British artist whose work ‘Diabetes: Year One’ formed his Master’s thesis at MMU’s School of Art. The pair will talk about their differing approaches to discussing healthcare in comics, as well as highlighting what motivates them to create such difficult, personal work.
Wed 14 Mar, MMU Special Collections, Manchester Metropolitan University, All Saints Campus, Manchester, M15 6BH. 2pm – 3.30pm, www.eventbrite.co.uk
