Pizza Day Giveaway at PLY
Our first pick of free things to do in Manchester this weekend is the this delectable treat from Northern Quarter pizza parlour PLY. All day Friday, the Lever Street restaurant will be celebrating National Pizza Day – a real thing, apparently – with a big pizza-related giveaway. Drop by for a meal – which will cost you money, sorry – and your table will be gifted a free prize: Ranging from discounts to mounds to freebies. Reserving a table ahead of time isn’t compulsory, but it is recommended.

Pizza Day Giveaway at The Printworks
Another venue celebrating Pizza Day is O’Neill’s Irish bar in The Printworks, who’ll be handing out 100 free slices from midday. You have to work for your lunch though, as the venue have planned a scavenger hunt around the complex where you’ll have to follow clues in order to get your hands on the hot, tasty pizza.

Noor Afshan Mirza and Brad Butler Exhibition Launch at HOME
HOME’s latest exhibition kicks off this weekend, and you can celebrate at this free launch party on Friday night. Noor Afshan Mirza and Brad Butler are launching their three-part film installation The Scar and to kick things off, they’ve invited spoken word collective Young Identity to perform pieces based around the installation. Ancient Egypt Book Launch at Manchester Museum
Pocket Museum: Ancient Egypt is a new book from publishers Thames & Hudson, which documents the history of the civilization through 200 objects collected from the world’s museums. The book is being launched this Saturday at Manchester Museum, where its author Dr. Campbell Price works as curator of the Egypt and Sudan collection. Dr. Price will be giving a short talk on the book, which charts over 5000 years of Egyptian history, art and culture.

Jewish Cookie Workshop at Manchester Jewish Museum
On Sunday, the Jewish Museum is hosting a free cookie-making workshop. A kichel is a type of sugar cookie ubiquitous in Israel, and popular in Jewish communities across the world, in part because of its flexibility and its ability to be mixed up creating new flavours. At this workshop, you will be invited to make your own unique kichels from a wide range of ingredients, and also learn a little about Jewish food culture along the way.
