Our first pick of free things to do in Manchester this weekend is a fascinating workshop at The Alexandria Library, a multi-lingual charity bookshop in Rusholme. Artist Saima Rasheed is an associate of the Green Man Gallery in Buxton, and works in the tradition of Indo-Persian miniature painting, shaking up the form with modern perspectives on gender, faith and taboo. All materials are provided as Rasheed takes you through this rich, storied practice and invites you to produce a miniature painting of your own.

Caroline Broadhead and Maisie Broadhead at Manchester Art Gallery
Mother and daughter art duo Caroline and Maisie Broadhead will be taking part in this Q&A event ahead of the launch of their new exhibition ReFrame at Manchester Art Gallery. Curator Jo Bloxham will be talking the pair through their work, which reframes traditional depictions of femininity. The talk is followed by refreshments, and the exhibition itself runs through until January 2019.

Print Fair at The Whitworth
The Manchester Print Fair returns to The Whitworth as part of this year’s Design Manchester festival. Stalls will be packed with all manner of prints, posters and zines for hungry print-heads, with representatives from Preston-based Birley Studios, illustrator Adam Nevols and cutesy merch-makers Bird House Press amongst the dozens of creators exhibiting and selling at the gallery. This is a two-day event, so plenty of opportunities to pick up something special.

Jo Rose at Dulcimer
Manchester favourite Jo Rose comes to Chorlton’s The Dulcimer this Sunday evening – just one of many exciting things happening at the venue over the weekend. The local Americana singer-songwriter will be playing the venue’s upstairs room, and bringing some special guests along to join him.
