Trevor Paglen at The Whitworth
American artist and geographer Trevor Paglen comes to the Whitworth this Monday for this special talk on AI and vision. His past work has covered issues such as data collection and mass surveillance, and he’ll be bringing these past learning to bear in Machine Visions, which looks at how machines create and interpret images – often without human interference – and what this means for our conception of what an image is.

Deaf, Dumb and Blind at Holden Gallery
On Tuesday, MMU’s Holden Gallery hosts this afternoon-long series of events from artist and Manchester School of Art professor Tim Brennan. Deaf, Dumb & Blind is not one event, but three: Deaf (2pm) is a tour of the surrounding area, led by Brennan, where you’re furnished with 100% noise-cancelling headphones. Blind (4pm) is a tour of the Holden Gallery where all participants are blindfolded and Dumb is 1 hour silent lecture. The first two events require advance booking, but the third just requires you to turn up.

The Quiz That Came From Space at Deaf Institute
Beloved Grosvenor Street bar and venue The Deaf Institute hosts this new quiz on Tuesday night. The Quiz That Came From Space  aims to test the areas that other quizzes can’t reach, promising a “Crystal Maze but without crystals or a maze”. This one isn’t technically free, with a small £1 entry fee required from each participant, but it’s well worth the cost to check out this fledgling pub quiz, before it gets packed-out every week.
Tue 30 Apr, The Deaf Institute, 135 Grosvenor Street, Manchester, M1 7HE, 8pm – 11pm, £1, www.facebook.com

Sean Morley at Zombie Shack (pictured)
Regular comedy and mental health awareness night Barking Tales invites surrealist BBC Comedy finalist Sean Morley along to perform in this month’s show. Morley, who scooped rave reviews for his performance at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe, will either be previewing material from his forthcoming 2019 show or just mucking about on stage – both scenarios are entertaining in his deft hands. He’s supported on the night by British-Muslim comic Isma Almas, and sex positive comedian-poet Ros Ballinger, along with host Harriet Dyer. Whilst the show is technically free to attend, donations are also requested if you’re feeling flush.
Wed 1 May, Zombie Shack, 50 New Wakefield Street, Manchester, M1 5NP, 7pm – 10.15pm, www.facebook.com
