January always seems to be a month of tightening the purse strings unfortunately, but you’ll be pleased to hear Band On The Wall have lined up a series of fantastic free entry events on offer over the next few weeks. Ranging from performances of experimental, emerging music to delectable drinking delights, there’s something on offer to suit all tastes, without spending a penny.

Free Vibes Indie Showcase | Thu 3, Sat 5, Thu 10 + Thu 17 Jan | 7.30pm
Popular indie showcase Free Vibes wastes no time bringing some of the North West’s best local bands to our attention, back with another series of takeovers lined up with their usual partners in crime, MCR Live and Shell Zenner.

Inner City Waves Urban Music Showcase | Fri 4 + Thu 31 Jan | 8pm/8.30pm
January sees two visits from hip-hop, R’n’B and urban music showcase Inner City Waves, unveiling a huge line-up across two nights. Attendees can look forward to performances from soul songstress EvaBee, local rappers Kamali and Savvy, R’n’B vocalist Hana Malik, local producer Kill Miami (pictured), vocal powerhouse Caiine and many more.

Live Lounge | Sun 13 Jan | 5pm | FREE
Drummer and keyboardist Tom Barber hosts an intimate evening of live music from his latest musical project, Fraction Project. Perhaps best know from his own outfit the Tom Barber Trio, expect a genre-blending set of new and old favourites.

Free Jazz Showcase | Tue 15 + Sun 20 Jan, Tue 12 Feb | 9pm
Drop in for a cocktail of jazz, electronic, hip-hop, funk, soul and experimental new music featuring sixteen forward-thinking artists, including multi-instrumentalist collective Oystercatcher, ambient jazz/hip-hop outfit Mayling, instrumentalist Aeon Fitch and many more.

Free Discolpyso Clubnight | Fri 18 Jan | 11pm
Tropical party starters Discolypso return again for a night of Caribbean floorfillers, afrobeat goodness and latin boogie. Expect four hours of only the finest disco cuts from local DJ Simon ‘Fresh’ Ham, accompanied with live percussion from Gavin Wilks.

First Chop Tap Takeover | Sat 19 Jan | 3pm
Salford-based brewery First Chop bring down their best kegs, casks, cans and special brews, with plenty of free samples on offer throughout the day. DJ Nick Sinna is on hand to soundtrack the day, spinning heavy reggae, dub and sound clash favourites, with a special guest still to be announced.

Fat Free Showcase | Thu 24 Jan | 7.30pm
Indie promoters Fat Out present the very first ‘Fat Free’ showcase with emerging artists spanning jazz, Sufi songwriting, spoken word and experimental electronica, featuring Trianglecuts, Errant Monks, Sarah Yaseen and Locean.
