Here’s the round up of free things to keep your midweek afloat. If you’re sick of free things, you can always check out Manchester Job Fair on Wednesday – also free – and with all your hot new disposable income, you can wave goodbye to free things forever. Until then, you’re poor and you need entertaining, so take a look:

Gein’s Family Giftshop at Kings Arms
Award-nominated sketch group Gein’s Family Giftshop return with their monthly scratch night at the Kings. As well as offering you a glimpse at their dark sketches in rough form, they also typically have a good line-up of supporting stand-ups. This one is no different, with turns from the bouncy Brennan Reece and the miserly Michael J Dolan.

Blues Jam at Matt & Phreds (pictured)
Matt & Phreds’ monthly jam night returns for a night of summer blues. Led by Franny Eubank’s Blues Band, it’s a real night for musos – and a great opportunity to check out the city’s top jazz venue tucked away on Tib Street. Advance table reservations are recommended, because these tend to fill up.

Middling Bond Films at Hold Fast
For reasons unknown, Hold Fast – the nautical-themed cellar bar ‘neath Hatters Hostel – is screening Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough on consecutive nights this week. Regrettably, they don’t seem to be screening Goldeneye (the best Brosnan Bond flick) – but then they’re also not showing Die Another Day (hands down, the worst), so let’s count our blessings. It’s a nice little bar and this will be some solid late 1990s popcorn fun.

365 Days of Collage wrap party at Islington Mill
Art studio DR.ME – known to their mums as Ryan Doyle and Mark Edwards – are shutting up shop on their latest project, 365 Days of Collage, with this wrap party at Islington Mill. They’re going out with style though, with DJs from Stop Making Sense and Broü Haha, plus free beer. What’s more, you’ll also be able to pick up any unsold collages for a tenner, which is practically giving them away.
