Manchester School of Art is screening Ken Loach’s 2016 Palme d’Or-winning film I, Daniel Blake on Monday afternoon. The film is a stark, thoroughly-researched look at the benefits system, shown through the eyes of the titular protagonist. The screening’s first-come first serve, so make sure you get down in plenty of time to guarantee a seat. The organisers will also be taking food bank donations on the night.

Oldham Street’s Gullivers hosts this free discussion on the current state of the union, focusing in on the triggering of the Brexit negotiations and the renewed calls for independence in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Activist group Counterfire have invited Scottish writer and lifelong organiser Chris Bamberry to lead the Q&A, drawing from his experiences and his numerous works, such A People’s History of Scotland.

Noise Machine Demo at Texture
Audio artists David Birchall and Vicky Clark – better known as Noise Orchestra – bring their latest work to indie venue Texture this Thursday. They’ve been working hard building new synthesisers and light machines, which they’ll be demonstrating on the night, along with performances from fellow artists Dan Valentine, Andrea Pazos, Tech Hermits and A.P. Macarte, who’ll be presenting an eclectic bill of music, film and experimental works.
