Ken Loach’s powerful portrayal of poverty and unemployment made a splash upon its arrival last year, enthralling audiences and breaking hearts in equal measure, and it’s being screened for free at at the Friends’ Meeting House on mount Street this Tuesday. screening will be followed by a Q&A with representatives from DPAC, Unite and legal charity Greater Manchester Law Centre to discuss the issues raised in the film. At the time of writing, free tickets are sold out for this event, but you’re still able to add your name to the waiting list or purchase a ticket by donation. All proceeds go to food banks and The Greater Manchester Law Centre.

Colouring Club at Common
Manchester art institution Colouring Club returns for 2017, with their first instalment at Common on Edge Street. Run by local illustrators Camille Smithwick and Amy Minto, the club is a free artistic space where anything goes as long as it involves making marks on paper and (loosely) fits the evening’s theme. Making Waves at Trof
Also this Wednesday, you can catch this music night at Trof. Making Waves is a regular free music night, tucked away in the snug upstairs of the Northern Quarter bar and hosted by local four-piece Glass Tides. For this week’s show they’ve got two stellar acts booked in: Maybe Frank is a locally-based Americana duo who’ve toured both here and the USA, and supporting them is Limerance, a Merseyside-based folk outfit.

Book Bash at Kosmonaut
Kosmonaut are hosting another of their regular book bashes this weekend and you’re invited!
