Ian McMillan (pictured) at The People’s History Museum
Poet and broadcaster Ian McMillan comes to the People’s History Museum this week as for this one-off event Is that Me in the Picture. The event puts you hands-on with McMillan to work on poetry of your own, taking inspiration from the photographs on display in museum’s current exhibition Grafters, which documents the lives of ordinary working people from the industrial revolution, right through to present day. Registration is essential if you want to take part in this event.

Augusto Corrieri at MMU Special Collections

Manchester Beer Week Collab Fest at Port Street Beer House
It’s Manchester Beer Week this week, marked by a series of events celebrating and showcasing some the best local breweries. This weekday evening at the mighty Port Street Beer House invites you to sample brand new unique beers created by collaborations between city breweries and other breweries from around the country. All the beers are themed around Manchester, so go find out exactly what that means. Hopefully, none of them taste like the Irwell.

Edinburgh Comedy at Gullivers
As the Edinburgh Fringe beckons, the nation’s comedians are writing and honing their shows to take North of the border, and we get the benefit of cut-price previews of these shows. This double-preview at Gullivers features the talents of Dan Nicholas, Tom Burgess and Sam Nicoresti. Nicholas presents his absurdist show Scripted, which is heavy on audience interaction. Tom and Sam are character comics, showcasing their new creations: ageing broadcaster Peter Fleming (pictured) and pirate DJ Wilbur Bilb respectively. Both are bound to be great, alternative shows, and with no charge on the door, you’d be a fool not to.
