Sunday sees a Family Sunday Funday at Central Library, whilst on Friday you can either go for some light-hearted spoken word or a talk on the one of the world’s deadliest diseases. Pretty fair to say we’ve got all grounds covered this week, no?

Special FX is Royal Exchange’s series of free entertainment in the liberating post-office Friday lost, and this week it sees the mighty, mighty spoken word whizzes Bad Language take to the stage for their first stab at the night. The free hour of live lit will feature writer, editor and Bookmunch contributor Benjamin Judge, support poet for Carol Ann Duffy and recent Bad Language headliner Michael Conley, brilliant creative non-fiction writer Kate Feld and renowned performance poet Rod Tame, whilst JP Daly and Fat Roland will be on board to compere proceedings.

Stopping Ebola: Whose responsibility is it anyway?
Now, then. Here’s a weighty one for you. You’ll all remember when West Africa’s Ebola outbreak was first reported back in March last year, but since then has become the deadliest occurrence of the disease since it was discovered almost 40 years ago. As part of British Science Week, MMU hosts a panel discussion exploring the threat to world health and security with experts and opinion formers in the field.

Family Sunday Funday at Central Library
Central Library throws its doors open to families this weekend for a Sunday Funday, marking exactly one year since its grand reopening after refurbishment. There will be a range of activities throughout the building including a musical medley from mini four-piece orchestra Artful Playground, poems and wordplay from That Poetry Bloke (a.k.a. Craig Bradley), a self-guided Treasure Tour of the library, a Minecraft Team Challenge run by digital experts Mako Eduction (booking essential), plus artists will be on hand all afternoon to help guests design their own party hat ahead of the cutting of the special celebration cake.
