It’s a triple arty whammy across the city this week, with exhibitions launching at Cornerhouse, Waterside Arts Centre and Federation House.
Kairos at Cornerhouse
Following 2013 performance Written in Skin, Kairos is the second collaboration from artists Loren Fetterman and Stefanie Elrick. As part of Cornerhouse’s Playtime, Kairos is based on the ancient Greek concept of time and blends poetry, live performance and installation. The live performance, taking place on Saturday, will see Stefanie secured on a central disc of four concentric wheels turning constantly, whilst Loren transcribes publicly sourced poems onto the wooden discs. The fully transcribed wheel will then be put on display for Sunday.

Boom, shk (g’dit-g’dit-dat) at Waterside Arts Centre
Inspired by internet video footage of the UK rave scene in the 1990s, ‘Boom, shk (g’dit-g’dit-dat)’ – a phonetic reference to the era’s ubiquitous drum breakbeat – is a series of paintings by Leeds-based visual artist Helen Dryden. Known for her bright, psychedelic colours, patterns and semi-abstract depictions, Dryden’s works feature figures with gurning faces, hands in the air, caught up in swirls of colour and completely lost in the music, all creating the idea that ravers become half ecstatic, half zombie.
Sat 31 Jan – Sat 28 Feb, Waterside Arts Centre, 1 Waterside, Sale, M33 7ZF, 10am – 5pm, FREE, www.watersideartscentre.co.uk
Your Colour Perception at Federation House
As her largest site-specific installation to date, visual artist Liz West is using Castlefield Gallery’s huge 4th floor space as a laboratory, testing the influence and perception of luminous colour in architectural space and on the visitors experiencing it. In doing so, the exhibition looks to transform Federation House into a sensory, visceral experience, overloading the gallery space with artificial chromatic light, an environment that West will use to document and research the psychological, physical, emotional and spiritual responses that visitors experience within it.
Sat 31 Jan – Sun 1 Feb (Preview Fri 30 Jan), 4th Floor, Federation House, Federation Street, M4 2AH, 2 – 8pm (Preview 6 – 9pm), FREE, www.liz-west.com
