Bank holiday again! No doubt many of you will be soaking up the extra day by means of boozing hard – or partying hard over at Sounds From The Other City – so here are some freebies to ease the strain on that poor wallet.
Get Baking with Luis Troyano (pictured) at The Trafford Centre
Yup, that bloody lovely fella off Great British Bake Off (and from nearby Poynton) makes his way over to The Trafford Centre this weekend to launch the new Bosch Mobile Training academy, a bus packed state-of-the-art cooking paraphernalia including the new Series8 ovens from Bosch. Bosh. Luis will be holding demos on board the bus at various times (listed below), cooking up a storm that includes his signature scones, before launching his new book ‘Bake It Great’ in August. This guy!
Fri 1 May, The Trafford Centre, Trafford, M17 8AA, 10 – 10.30am, 11.30am – midday, 1 – 1.30pm, 2.30 – 3pm, FREE, www.twitter.com
Spinfest at The Oast House
Another bank holiday, another Spinfest. This time the stage at the Oast House courtyard will see a tuneful combo of soul, blues, pop indie and jazz from local bands The Inner Groove, Sequin Sounds, 52 Skidoo, Issimo, Nicky and The Astronauts, Dino Baptiste and Jack Buckley. With face painters and balloon artists to entertain the young’uns, the rest of you can slurp up some Bulleit Bourbon cocktails, whilst chowing down on Oast House food.
Sun 3 May, The Oast House, The Avenue Courtyard, M3 3AY, 12pm – late, FREE, www.theoasthouse.uk
Eighty Six at The Beagle
Bank holiday Beagle mainstay, DJ collective Eighty Six, returns to the Chorlton pub’s terrace for another all-dayer of laid-back records. If the sun’s shining, no doubt those swanky new terrace doors will be thrown open, but if – as the weatherman threatens – we’re hit with something less summery, simply kick back inside the cosy joint with beers and comforting Mexican grub.
Sun 3 May, The Beagle, 458 Barlow Moor Rd, M21 0BQ, 4pm – late, FREE, www.beaglesabout.com
